Ingredients
- 1 sheet of Shortcrust pastry thawed
- 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, Parmesan, Gruyère, or a mix)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Optional:
- Spices (paprika, cayenne pepper, dried herbs)
- Salt and pepper
Preparation
- To make these cheesy twists, start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unfold a thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
- Sprinkle half of your grated cheese evenly over the pastry, then fold it in half and press down gently. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and lightly roll the pastry to press the cheese in.
- Cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips, and twist each strip in opposite directions to create spirals. Place them on the baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
- For a golden finish, whisk an egg and brush it over the twists. You can also add spices, salt, and pepper at this stage. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool slightly before serving. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses, add a pinch of cayenne or dried herbs for extra flavor, or serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
