What better way to celebrate Ugadi other than with a Kichri mixed with Sunny Peas.


  • Oil– 1 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli – 2
  • Crushed ginger – 1 tsp
  • Garlic pods – 5
  • Curry leaves a spring
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Rice – ½ cup
  • Moong Dal – 2 tbsp
  • Sunny Peas – ¼ cup
  • Water – 3 cups
  • Turmeric power – ¼ tsp
  • Salt as needed
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

1. In a bowl add in the Rice and moong dal, wash well, and soak in water till you use. Heat a pressure cooker with oil and once its hot add in the mustard seeds and cumin seeds let it splutter and then Green Chilli and Bay leaf, Saute for few secs.

2. Add in the crushed ginger and green chili saute for few secs and then add in the curry leaves let it splutter. Add in the garlic pods. Next, add in the chopped onions and saute till glossy.

3. Add in the tomatoes cook till it turns soft. Now add in the Sunny peas, Next, add in the soaked moong dal and Rice fry for a min. Add turmeric & salt.
Mix well. And then add in the measured water. Mix well.

4. Once it starts boiling close the pressure cooker. Cook for 4 whistles in a high flame and one more whistle in a medium flame and switch off wait till the pressure subsides on its own and then open the cooker. Garnish with coriander leaves.
